Spanish Air Traffic Outlook
Time flies… for this reason we have decided to review the Spanish air traffic during the first semester of 2015. The results are positive from all fronts and statistics from 2014 have improved in every aspect.
More than 93 million passengers have been going through the airports run by AENA (+5.2% over 2014), with almost 890.000 flights operated (+3.3%), carrying 340 million kgs. of cargo (+3.1%).
Among the best performing airports in terms of passengers numbers, it is worth mentioning Madrid, which has recovered the traffic lost in the past few years and saw almost 22 million passengers going through its facilities (+11.4% over 2014). In general, all airports registered positive growth, with Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Valencia, Seville and Menorca being the top performers. For more information, please click here
Finally, let’s have a look at the top 10 destinations, where the domestic market is the clear winner with 28.5 million passengers. Other European countries like the United Kingdom (UK) or Germany (GB) moved 15.5 and 11.2 million passengers respectively. Italy (IT) and France (FR) also have an important share of travellers to and from our country, with over 5 million passengers each. Closing the ranking, the Netherlands (NL), Belgium (BE), Switzerland (CH), Ireland (IR) and Sweden (SE), with 10.7 million passengers in total.
At Europair we are glad to see how the Spanish air traffic keeps evolving and we are looking forward to seeing similar growth rates for the rest of the year.
Happy summer!
